入職條件:	申請人必須(a)在一九七五年十二月五日後獲選為香港工程師學會電子工程專業界別的正式會員，或具備同等資格；以及(b)語文能力程度達綜合招聘考試兩張語文試卷(中文運用及英文運用)「一級」成績，或具備同等成績[註(1)]；並能說流利粵語及英語。
註:	(1) 綜合招聘考試中文運用及英文運用試卷的成績分為「二級」、「一級」或「不及格」，並以「二級」為最高等級。香港高級程度會考中國語文及文化、中國語言文學或中國語文科「C」級或以上和「D」級的成績分別會獲接納為等同綜合招聘考試中文運用試卷的「二級」和「一級」成績。香港高級程度會考英語運用科「C」級或以上和「D」級的成績(或同等成績)則分別會獲接納為等同綜合招聘考試英文運用試卷的「二級」和「一級」成績。在International English Language Testing System (IELTS)學術模式整體分級取得6.5或以上，並在同一次考試中各項個別分級取得不低於6的成績的人士，在IELTS考試成績的兩年有效期內，會視為已符合電訊工程師職位的英語能力要求。IELTS考試成績必須在職位開始接受申請的首天(即2009年8月28日)仍然有效。 (2) 為提高大眾對《基本法》的認知和在社區推廣學習《基本法》的風氣，所有公務員職位的招聘，均會包括《基本法》知識的評核。申請人在基本法測試(學位/專業程度職系)的表現，會用作評核其整體表現的其中一個考慮因素，但不會影響其申請公務員職位的資格。原則上，申請人的學歷、經驗和才能仍然是考慮其是否適合被聘用的主要因素。
職責:	電訊工程師的主要職責為(a)策劃、安裝及試驗電訊及電子設備；(b)為電訊及電子設備訂立標準及規格；(c)監管電子設備的水準及保養程序；(d)管理及監管保養合約；(e)監察公共電訊機構的工作；以及(f)管理無線電頻譜。 (註：或須不定時工作，包括晚上及周末，以及星期日及公眾假期。)
聘用條款:	獲取錄的申請人會按公務員試用條款受聘，試用期為三年；通過試用關限後，或可按合約條款受聘，為期三年；其後當局才會考慮按當時適用的長期聘用條款聘用。
